Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

Sweet old-fashioned violets.

I have been painting a corner cupboard for the shop, and was inspired by the way it looks to make it
very old-fashioned, by painting the inside with stripes and violets, to look like wallpaper and line the edge of the shelves with antique lace. I think it would look pretty in any room.

Sorry about the plug, I should have got rid of that!

The bottom doors on these cupboards are often very flat and featureless so I added a painted line and a vintage looking tin soap sign.

A little posy of mixed flowers from the garden, very fragrant with the lavender, sage and old fashioned roses.

The cupboard is painted using Autentico chalk paint in Lavender. I have taken to rubbing a little essential oil on the back of cupboards or underneath drawers on old pieces, as they often have a bit of an 'old furniture' smell, which I find offensive. I would love to have had some violet oil, but lavender worked quite nicely.

I am very pleased to have found a purple poppy for my garden, after lusting after it when I saw it on Pinterest, mine is actually more of a plum colour.

Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday, with love, Linda x

  1. This is really a nice cupboard and I like your ideas for it. Also, it's a good idea about adding essential oil to the wood. I wonder if it lasts very long.

  3. What a transformation! The stripes and shelf detail certainly change it to a delicate piece. You have some great ideas and if you may I am going to put some lavender oil on the inside of a cupboard at home that always smells musty.. Have to copy that idea x
    Still haven't tried autentico yet...

Love the idea of the lavender oil rubbed into the wood too. Thank you so much for your visit over to me and lovely comment....that little blackwork embroidery was from a set of designs I did nearly twenty years ago! Like you I love the old and the new mixing in together :)
    Wishing you a happy week.

  8. Glad to receive the tip from you about rubbing some essential oil on old pieces of furniture. I have a small cabinet I have left in the sun and added baking soda to no avail. I will try the oil.

I like your painted cupboard and how you styled it. Sweet posy of mixed flowers-my favorite style.
