Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

Lay a little egg for me!

One day, when I get my house in the country, I would like some chickens to go with it. We did try to have them where we live now, but it didn't work out as we have limited space and it meant we had to clean out their run every night, and boy do they make a lot of mess. I did love hearing the little cluck cluck noises they made, and they are so nosey and comical and just love company.

As for the lovely fresh eggs, they make my cakes so yellow, and taste truly wonderful. So, we will definitely have chickens again. I came across this most heavenly henhouse in American Country Living magazine http://www.countryliving.com/ . Wouldn't this just be the 'bee's knee's'?

I don't know why exactly, as I am from a city, but my heart has always been in the country. I just feel more at home and relaxed with rolling hills and green fields all around me. We live in a semi-rural  area at the moment, which suits for now, for my daughters schooling and my husbands work, but in the future we would like somewhere a little more remote.

Isn't this just hilarious?

This is just too much fun, I can just see myself with my little basket off to make blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Anyone like to join me?

I won't be about for a few days as we are off to the seaside, but I wish you all a very productive and happy week.

Ta ta for now, will be thinking of you, love Linda x.  (images are from http://www.countryliving.com/ andhttp://www.pinterest.com/

  1. Hello Linda:
We too had hens when we were in Herefordshire and loved them, especially for those wonderful, deep yellow eggs. They did have quite a nice house and run, but nothing compared with the Rolls Royce of hen houses you show here.

Have a lovely holiday and we shall very much look forward to your return.

  2. Love this post. And I adore that henhouse; I've posted the same one before. Our chickens are 7 weeks old and I cannot wait until they are big enough to let free range around our yard, and lay eggs of course!

  3. We only got our four hens last summer but they are lovely, and the eggs are just great. Our henhouse is going to have a paint to pretty it up this summer, but there is no way it could live up to that little hen palace! Wow!
    Enjoy your hols.

  4. Nothing better than true free range eggs from hens that you know! Our next door neighbour had hens and you just reminded me of that wonderful yellow colour?
Have a great break at the seaside.

  5. Hi Linda

That hen house is wildly fancy with its white walls. I think you would be whitewashing each week to keep it in pristine condition. I love the chicken bridge ha ha

I am happy you are headed for a holiday to the coast. Wishing you sunshine and lots of joy.

  6. My husband would like some chooks but I am not so sure.

There's another blogger I read who lives nearby me and boy does she work hard for those hens - has to get up early every day....and they keep getting something called red mite which she has to eradicate -and other things that consume time and effort - yeah I think I'll keep going down to the farm and buying their free range eggs. They're good enough for me, lazy cow that I am. :)

    Have a lovely holiday Linda.

  11. Hens are on my list too, along with the AGA and labrador.
That is a very posh hen house...just needs a cockerel weather vane on the top to complete the look!
Have a lovely holiday at the seaside.

  12. We live in a rural area, and the old boy who lived next door bred rabbits (for the table, not for fun!), kept chickens and an old rooster, who used to wake us every morning. I got free eggs all the time, not to mention fruit and veg from his garden. He died many years ago and I miss that old rooster. I would love to have chickens, but my doctors and specialists all shake their heads when I ask/plead and say NO. This is because I have no immune system and could catch something from the birds, and it's not worth the risk. So I keep chickens vicariously through everyone else who does and writes about them!
    Enjoy the seaside.
