Comforting, cosy casual creations are at the forefront of my mind. I need to do some nest-building before the winter comes. Do any of you feel this way?
For a long time now I have been wanting to replace the rather shabby stair carpet with a runner. I managed to track down a roll of wonderful vintage linen, woven in a herringbone design with a single stripe down the middle. I am in the process of painting the stairs and will post some photos of it soon. Here are a couple of inspiration photos that have been keeping me motivated.
And a little more loveliness for the home...........................................................................................................................................................
Isn't this a lovely spot to sit and read to your child, or even yourself? I hope you enjoyed my gathered images of comfort? All the images were found here. |

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I love it all! The wreath with an Autumnal feel is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see all the wonderful ideas you will share at Christmas time!
I love being back in UK. I, too, after a very long hot Summer in Italy, feel ready to embrace the new season!
I love all the berries, the rose hips, the colours of the countryside as the weather turns colder... beautiful!
I still have roses in my garden!

Hello Linda:
ReplyDeleteYour autumn wreath is so very pretty. We love the way that you have combined the textures and colours to give the effect of a burning autumn sun....such a welcome this would give to any home.
When we lived in Herefordshire, Roger Oates's studio was only a short distance from our house. We do admire his designs for stair runners as they are restrained and elegant in pattern, often combine the most beautiful earthy tones and are made from robust and natural fabrics. Your inspirational pictures remind us very much of his style which we suspect is close to yours. W look forward to seeing the final result!!
Love the photos.. favourite the reading spot and the snuggly corner by the fireplace, where you could wrap yourself in a warm soft snuggly throw, and read, or daydream. Though I would prefer a view of the fire, very helpful in meditation I find.
ReplyDeleteHi Colores, so happy you like the images. Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, I am completely with you on the berries, hips and haws, It's wonderful! Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteDear Jane and Lance, I am sorry to say it but I didn't make the lovely wreath. I love Roger Oates's stair runners, they are the best, but a little out of my price range. I just hope that my vintage one can withstand the ravages of the OKane household, and me constantly hauling furniture up and down stairs! Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteMaggie, you are right, that cosy book corner needs a fire and then you could have a proper snooze! Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteYou find the best pictures, Linda. I want to learn how to pin. How wonderful you have been working in your garden and planning improvements inside. You have inspired me today. Hope you are having a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda. I've missed you!! I'm now following some of your boards on Pinterest. I'm really getting into it now! Yes, as autumn arrives, our thoughts do start to think of cosy homes, with a log fire and scented candles. Summer hasn't been much to speak about this year, so I'm now looking forward to Autumn! Wonderful images you have found for us today. Hope all is well with you and your little family. x Like the new header photo by the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteLove your gathering of comfort pictures...getting me right in the mood for Autumn.

Tried to send you an email but it bounced back...yes the ticking is for sale....do you want to email me for details?
Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comments, I always love to hear from you :)
The images you put together are all wonderful, and very much in the style I aim to achieve in my own home (not always successfully!).
I painted my stairs in a farrow and ball off white, and purchased a stair runner from fired earth. I was really happy with the result.
Looking forward to seeing your own stairs when they are finished. Hope you have a great weekend.
Hugs, Abby xx
You've chosen some spiffing pictures - marvellous eye candy. Love love love that cable knit coat. And that huge wicker trunk.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessing about stripey stair carpet at the moment. If the vintage one doesn't work out, you might like to know that they can make any carpet into a runner, so take that Roger Oates! C.x
ReplyDeleteHello Linda
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to accept that autumn is arriving: what happened to summer this year?
Your comforting pictures are a reminder of everything positive about this time of the year and, right now, the sun is shining here - it is a golden day.

ReplyDeleteAnna, so glad the sun is shining for you. I don't know what happened to summer. I've started to realize that when the short spell of good weather comes in early summer, to grab it with both hands, as that is probably it! I do love autumn though and am looking forward to lighting the fire for the first time. Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteI do get that feeling of nesting around this time, all the woolen quilts are brought out and I stock up on candels :) .. your stair runner sounds really lovely Linda, what a great find, look forward to seeing it all finished.. and loving all the loveliness! :) x
