Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

Powerscourt County Wicklow

As promised, the rest of our holiday snapshots. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to spend a large part of the day in these wonderful gardens. Those Landscape Gardener's from days of yore had such vision didn't they? They knew how to put a scheme together! These gardens are really lovely and the scenery around is so lush and green and mountainous, truly spectacular. I especially loved the walled garden, with its wonderfully full borders, lilly ponds and gorgeous gates. We took several photos of the gates but my husband spoilt them all with silly poses, so sorry I am not including them.

Lois looks like a little Leprechaun in this! She took the 2 pics above which I think are rather good.

Afterwards we went to 'Johnny Foxes Pub', supposed to be the highest pub in Ireland. It really is geared for the American tourist and was a little O.T.T. in it's Irishness, we were tempted to run away before ordering but had been told on good authority that it was renowned for it's Seafood, so we stayed and it really was very good.

I adore my honeysuckle just outside the kitchen door, it smells so sweet and the standard rose is scented too and there is lavender underneath.

Now I am no Capability Brown and neither is ny husband, we aren't really gardeners at all, but we are triers, and we enjoy trying! I kind of view the garden as another room and so colour plays an important role, and I like the cottage garden style. Thats about as far as the knowledge extends, it's a case of the blind leading the blind, but it's fun, and we do get enormous stisfaction out of seeing things grow.

The Passion flower is new and so I don't expect it will do a lot this year, but hopefully next, if it doesn't get blown to bits!

Crabapples are early this year, I think it's jelly making time!

The first raspberry...yum!

A little cottage garden posy.

Hope you all are having a lovely summer. I hate to tell you this, but Autumn is coming, whilst out walking today I saw Hawthorn and Blackberries. I love Autumn, though, not at the start when the weather is still warmish and you don't know what to wear, but when there is that nip in the air and you have to get your tweed and woollies out of the closet, and you can wear boots . I love the freshness in the air, and I always get the feeling that I can acomplish great things, there is an energy about Autumn. All the seasons are wonderful in their own way and I would miss them if I went to live in a milder climate. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, love Linda x

  8. Hi Linda,

When I see your photo's of Powerscourt I realise it's the garden we visited when in Ireland! It still looks pretty. At the time we visited the house was still a ruin. It looks beautiful now.

I enjoyed scrolling through your garden pictures too. There is so much colour! Hope you will have a lovely weekend to enjoy it!

Your little Leprechaun looks very sweet sitting under the tree :-)

    Lieve groet,

    Madelief x

  14. Hello Linda

Thank you for the trip through Powerscourt and your own beautiful garden. My favourite is Lois beneath the tree. She is definitely artistic and one can see it in her composition of the photographs.
You will have lovely memories to draw upon of this great trip and you can re-live them in front of the fire.
Wishing you a great week Linda

  15. Hi Linda!
This looks a wonderful place to visit! The fountains look wonderful, and I love the sweeping vistas. The photo of your daughter sitting under the tree is great!
Your garden must be looking good, you have so much colour at the moment - mine is def a spring/early summer garden!
I know just what you mean re: Autumn and energy and the feeling of great things to be achieved - there is less temptation to be outdoors in the sun except on those gorgeous bright autumn days, just a chance to get on with things indoors without feeling you are wasting the good weather.
Just back from holiday and found plenty of ripe blackberries in the garden.
Thanks for taking the time to read back thru my old posts and comment on them - I have to catch up with you too now!

  16. I so enjoyed seeing the beautiful pictures of the garden at Powerscourt, and of your own lovely colourful flowers too. There is a bit of an autumn feel here too, and like you I enjoy it when it's really autumn and I can wear boots again, and no more uncertainty about the temperature! Have a lovely week.

  17. Linda...such a lovely post! I love the photo of Lois under the umbrella tree. Remember the artichoke that you inspired us to grow? It is about 3 times the size it was when purchased it... so far no buds. A master gardener said that it may not bloom the first year. I will likely post about it soon. When I do, I'll surely link to you.
