Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

Whoops I nearly forgot, this is for Claudia, who asked for the recipe for the poached pears. I am afraid I don't know where I originally got it from, it has been on a hand-written note in my Dessert file for many's a long year!

LEMON POACHED PEARS WITH BLACKBERRY SAUCE.
4 ripe pears
1 lemon
300ml. dry white wine  (I often use red).
100g caster sugar
1 cinnamon stick (or I sometimes use star anise)
200g fresh blackberries.

  1. peel, core and slice pears. (It looks nicer if you leave them whole, but for children or elderly I slice them)
  2. take peel from lemon with zester.
  3. squeeze juice from lemon.
  4. place juice and zest in pan with wine, sugar and cinnamon stick (or star anise). bring gently to boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved, then increase heat and boil until thickened (about 5 mins.)
  5. add pears, cover and poach gently for 10 mins.
  6. remove pears to a bowl and cool.
  7. boil wine mixture until reduced and pour over blackberries and cool. (I tend to put blackberries in with pears and poach them too, but they do break down a bit).
  8. mix with pears, serve chilled in glass dishes and garnish with lemon peel.
  9. that's all folks!

  5. Such beautiful images, like candy for the soul. The chicken wire gowns are simply amazing. Imagine them on a lawn of a stately home - how poignant that would be, a reminder of the fragility of life and how we should live every day to the full and with purpose. xxx

  8. Hello Linda:
What perfectly dreamy images you delight us with today. Now we are all thoughts of taking ourselves off somewhere to a secret place where we can let our thoughts drift and our imaginations run wild. Perhaps the night train to Venice is calling?

Hoping that your week is going well and that all your dreams are coming true!

  10. Hi Linda,

    The images are just wonderful,
I especially like the first one, it is so delicate
and the photo of the babies, well........

The one I don't like very much is the Christmassy one and the only reason being that time is just flying by and I cannot believe we will celebrate Christmas next month!!
Time to get my skates on and do a bit!
You gave me a timely reminder anyway.

Hope all well with you and your family and that your husband is home and your MIL is comfortable.

    Have a great day.

I'm off to town and just may see somethings that I could buy for that big day next month

  25. Hi Linda, thanks for your lovely comments, and for telling me about the films too. I have read about 'The Help' and wanted to see it. My husband won't go to see a film with me unless it is a comedy. I either sob or scream through a sad or scary movie.... drives him mad! :)
Hope your week is going well. Love, Abby xx
