Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

A Rosy Glow

My bathroom has recently had a slight makeover. I had previously painted the walls 'slate grey' and I loved the colour but when I made the roman blind (which was black) it did make the room quite dark.Mr.O.K. wasn't happy, he couldn't see to his ablutions properly! He doesn't usually complain about my paint choices, so I rather reluctantly set out to rectify it.

I remembered that I had a tin of 'Persian Rose' by Craig and Rose. Having previously had a bold colour on the walls I was quite confident that this colour would look well. However it was still a little nerve wrecking until the slate grey was totally obliterated.

I had some old Laura Ashley curtains belonging to my mum, that I was able to recycle into a blind and a cover for the side of the bath and the shower. The room feels several degrees warmer now, and everyone is happy. Oh, and it didn't cost any money, just a little time!

I even managed to fit in a drawing of our daughter, that was done by a street Artist in Monmartre. He really managed to catch the essence of her, even though he did it in ten minutes, and she didn't stop talking!

Some roses to go with my new bathroom. They have lasted extremely well, I have had them for 10 days.

Whilst the sewing machine was out I made a plastic bag holder from a lovely old linen cloth that came from Parna.
Lastly, this is my attempt at a still-life style photograph, to show off my flowers for Jane's 'Flower's in the house party'.Visit Jane here if you would like to see some lovely flowers.
I saw a rainbow when I left my daughter to school this morning, and it has brightened up into a lovely sunny day. So I would like to wish you all a lovely rosy, sunny rainbowey day, love Linda x

  3. Good day!
Rose is a great color choice for a bath! One's reflection has a healthy glow with a few years erased. = }. The vintage Laura Ashley is perfect for the setting!
I love Lois's expression in your drawing! She is such a pretty girl!
Linda, you never disappoint me... your sweet floral touches encourage me to buy some fresh flowers for our home!

  5. Hello Linda, I really like your bathroom- the pink works perfectly and I love the floral fabric you have used. I have recently been re-dyeing some rather grey white bath towels green(too broke for new ones!) and even that has cheered me up. You must be feeling very pleased! Jane x

    1. Well I might be following suit Jane, as I now need towels in a very definite shade of pink! I am sure your towels have given your bathroom a little burst of colour as well as giving you a little boost!

  8. Hi Linda,
If I had your fabulous bathroom, I would spend so long soaking in the bath, that I would come out all wrinkly!
The drawing of Lois is wonderful, and I agree, the artist has captured her perfectly.
Your still life photograph is a lovely reminder that spring is not far off :)
    Have a great week.
    Much love, Abby xx

  11. Hello Linda:
Your new bathroom colour is wonderful. The rich, plummy shade gives it such a feeling of luxury and decadence, but the problem may surely be that once anyone enters the bathroom they will be very reluctant to leave. And, what a snazzy radiator, we love it!!

You are so clever to have been able to recycle the fabric from your mother's curtains. It certainly complements the paint colour beautifully and really adds a fresh touch to the whole. Perfect!!

The drawing of your daughter is excellent and looks very fine where you have placed it. Do we detect a mischievous grin?!!!

    1. Oh thankyou Jane and Lance. Well it makes us want to stay a bit longer which is good, because although the radiator looks good it isn't that efficient!

Yes you definitely do detect a mischievious grin!

How lovely your bathroom turned out!! I like the shade of pink on the wall and your mothers curtain looks perfect as a blind and side of the bath. The accessories finish it off perfectly. I could not have done it :-)!

  20. Hi Linda
Thanks for your comments on mine!
Good on you that you research without guilt - all part of your business I would imagine, having to see whats out there and what new trends are emerging?
Thankyou too for explaining how you attached the bath panel - simple when you know how! I have wood planks on bath panel so i can paint to get a new look, but I was intruigued to know how you'd made it work - perfect, and you can easily remove for washing - well done! Id forgotten about good old velcro!
