About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog. If you like flowers and gardens, housey stuff, food and banter, then this is the place for you. I am a decorative artist, florist and maker of things. I sell painted furniture, plants and crafts, through a local retail shop, in my native Ireland, and wedding flowers from home. I am married to a lovely patient man and have a smashing little girl. I blog for the fun of it. Thank you for listening.

Spring has sprung!

Some of the lovely buildings in Chester.

A very decorative clock in Chester town centre.

We are back from our little trip, fully exhausted because we did so much, but at the same time energised  and renewed because travelling does that to you. We stayed with a relative in North Wales the first night and we visited Chester (England). It is an historic town full of wonderful old buildings and cobbled streets, it is also rather good for shopping. We stopped for coffee at Carluccio's , the coffee was wonderful but the cakes were disappointing!

The village of Near Sawrey in the Lakes.

Hilltop Farm one time home of Beatrix Potter, now owned by the National Trust.

My lovely Lois at the door of Hilltop Farm.

We had lunch at Low Sizergh Barn, a wonderful place to spend a little time. It is a farm, a cafe and farmshop, selling delicious local food products and gifts. The cafe serves tasty  home-made fare and I would highly recommend you visit if you are near Kendal.

Lois feeding the lambs at my friends sheep farm in the Lakes.

This little one was her favourite, she named him Milo.

aaahh!
We had an early start on the second day and headed north for the Lake District. I had promised my daughter that we would visit Hilltop Farm, once home to Beatrix Potter. Would you believe it, when we got there it was closed for refurbishments! We were able to look around the garden and to see the house from the outside and visit the shop, but it was a little disappointing after the build-up and travelling all that way. Nevermind it is an excuse to come again! We were so lucky with the weather it was really spring-like.

The village pub in Near Sawrey, isn't it sooo cute it looks like its just popped out of the pages of a Beatrix Potter book!

I think I will have to leave it there for now as I have to go. Happy Monday everyone! love Linda x.

  1. Lois looks as if she was having a great time! What a pity about the Beatrix Potter home! As you say, an excuse to come back again another time. Chester looks wonderful, and I must definitely get there one day. Looks as if the weather was good, so that was a bonus as well.

Low Sizergh Barn is a great place for food and Sizergh Castle just round the corner is a lovely NT property too.
Looks like you are going to have to come back to the Lakes again...

The photos are lovely, shame that Hilltop was closed.
We went to the lakes two years ago during the summer hols - was fantastic but couldnt get near Hill Top as it was too too busy to visit.
Chester is a great place isnt it, with all those lovely black timbered buildings.
